Janire Najera
Janire Najera is a documentary photographer and multimedia artist based in Cardiff, UK, who studied Journalism in Madrid and Documentary Photography at the University of Wales, Newport. Since graduating, Najera has undertaken artistic residencies and exhibited internationally. Her projects have been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN News and The Guardian. In 2015, Najera published her first book Moving forward, looking back with Editorial RM and Spain arts&culture.
Through her work Najera hopes to re-think and develop imagery that questions the histories and environments we belong to. Her documentary practice is concerned with highlighting communities that have been displaced through changing social and economic climates. From 2008 to 2012 she curated the multidisciplinary art project Ghosts in Armour, an artistic exploration into the declining of an industry that has shaped parallel cultures across Europe.
