Sam Gillibrand is a documentary photographer from the UK, who specialises in creating socially-conscious work that examines both society and the medium of photography. His projects are currently focused on the themes of conflict, state power and the interaction between the inhuman systems that run society and the irrational nature of human beings. In this way, he directs a critical eye at the relationship between western societies and the wars being fought across the globe, as well as how states exert control over their populations. In future, Gillibrand aims to expand beyond the limitations of the medium by incorporating found imagery and text alongside his own photography and writing to create a more complex and nuanced body of work. Polemic and impassioned, his practice serves as an often stark examination of contemporary society. His work was featured at the Anthropocene group show in 2019.
